Tommy Girl and the Tongue

We've really done it now. It's amazing to me how many people will stop and comment on our little baby and ask how old "he" is when "he" is clearly wearing pink and ruffles and a dress! It would be more clear, I suppose, if I could keep a bow in her hair. We have some really cute headbands (thanks Chani) but they don't last too long. I put one on and within a few minutes she has it ripped off or has stretched it out and then lets go and is in tears. I try gluing some on, too, with karo syrup, but she also ripped those off along with any little tiny amounts of hair she may be getting in. But now, I can agree that it might be hard to decide to the non-relative eye if my little Addy princess is indeed a "he" or a "she." Addy should be wearing the hand-me-downs from Laynee, but they are slightly off in seasons. For pajamas all Laynee had were heavy sleepers and we needed something summery. So being the resourceful person that I am, I dug out Rhett's old Bob the Builder pjs. The kids and I then put a baseball hat on her and when Kade got home we said we had a new friend named Tommy. So now every night when we put her pajamas on, the kids start calling her Tommy and Kade is referring to her as his little Tommy girl.

As far as new important discoveries at our household (besides the regular bug-related ones), Addy has discovered her tongue. There is nothing more funny than that discovery. It is hanging out everywhere she goes. This is the only time it will be okay and quite cute to stick your tongue out at everyone!

Dancing Laynee

We are fanatical at our house. When we like something, we eat, sleep and drink it. Laynee is into dancing. She wants music on, she dances all around, then she wants to hold hands and dance with everyone. Rhett humors her once in awhile, but his little friends can't stand it when Laynee wants to dance with them. Kade is her favorite though. Not only does he hold her hands, but he picks her up and they two step all over the house.
This week we started a dance class. It is a mix of modern and ballet and Laynee is in heaven. She loved the big open room. I was afraid she would get there and then be shy, but she did great. I think she particularly enjoyed the big mirror and watching her little skirt twirl.

Safety First

It's summertime in St. George and nothing beats the heat like a lot of water. Time to sign up for swimming lessons. Kade learned to swim the good old fashioned way. Boy won't swim-mom throws him in-miracle! boy now swims! Anymore DCFS will get you on that one, so off we go to watch for countless hours as our kids learn to swim the humane way.
Session One: May 27, 10 a.m. Kids divide into ranks. Laynee-Level One Rhett- Level Two
Laynee is so excited she forgets to wait her turn and jumps in when teacher isn't looking. Three moms charge the side and save the child.
No I wasn't one of the charging mothers. I was with Rhett trying to get him to dip a toe in the water, sit on the side and then finally prying fingers off the wall. I've got two extremes in the family. After the first week, we decided to take the kids over to the neighbors and have a little "friendly" swim lesson of our own. All I will say is "All's well that ends well." By the end of session one, Laynee was crying and sitting on my lap for half of the lessons, no longer wanting to get in for whatever reason and Rhett was doing the volcano off the bottom of the pool.

Three Children and the Demise of Family Portraits

Pictures are a pain. You see a perfect opportunity and grab for the camera but the moment is gone. You can try and create a perfect opportunity, but that usually ends in failure at our house. So we opt for the real life look into our family.

I've never been one for matching anything. You see the cute little families at church with all 6.7 children parading in with boys in matching vests and girls in matching dresses, usually including mom's skirt and dad's tie. Even though we seem to attend the same church, matching is against my religion. Well, I crossed over to the dark side last month. Laynee and I went shopping, mostly to get out, and we couldn't resist. Laynee went through racks and racks of clothes picking out the perfect outfit and of course there was one "just Addy's size," too! We had to immortalize the rare moment and so began a quest for a family portrait.

I decided three kids is just getting too difficult to keep everyone looking at me, hands down and smiling (normally at that!)
